The organizers of three major motorshows in Europe have just announced the postponement of their event. The Retromobile in Paris and the Retro Classic Car show in Stuttgart will be held next summer. The Bremen trade fair is canceled for its face-to-face part. This is not a surprise but certainly a blow for the community of collectors and for professionals in the sector.
The Retromobile motorshow (Paris) is postponed to June 2nd to 6th of 2021
The 46th edition of the Retromobile classic motor show was initially scheduled for February 3-7, but will ultimately take place from June 2-6, 2021 due to the effects of the pandemic. More than 1000 oldtimers and youngtimers, 620 exhibitors and 120 clubs are expected for the event.
On the other hand, Artcurial maintains its traditional auction on February 5. This famous sale, called “La Parisienne 2021”, notably includes among the cars entered the Matra MS 670 winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1972 with other cars unveiled later. Another specialized sale is also planned by Artcurial at the Retromobile show on June 4 and 5, 2021. This will precede the Le Mans Classic sale on July 5, 2021.
Postponement of the Retro Classics (Stuttgart) and cancellation of the Classic MotorShow (Bremen)
The Retro Clasics 2021 in Stuttgart is also postponed and will now take place from July 8 to 11, 2021. The Stuttgart Classic Fair will take place before the start of the holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württembergm and could take place entirely outdoors, as ” the already tense situation has radically changed in recent weeks”, according to Andreas Herrmann, Managing Director of Retro Messen GmbH.
The Bremen Classic Motorshow will take place entirely online. The fair, which should have taken place in the Bremen exhibition halls from February 5 to 7, 2021, was therefore canceled for its face-to-face part. Events will be offered online from February 5 to 7. Their content remains to be defined.
Hope remains for the Techno Classica in Essen
It is yet hoped that the Techno Classica trade fair in Essen, which was postponed from May 2020 to April 2021, will actually take place. This fair (“World Show for Vintage, Classic and Prestige Automobiles, Motorsport, Motorcycles, Spare Parts, Restauration and World Club Meeting”) is held in Essen every year and brings together over 120,000 m2 more than 1,250 exhibitors and 200 Clubs. In 2019, more than 2,700 cars were presented there. Sotheby’s holds internationally renowned auctions at the Techno Classica. In 2019, a superb Mercedes-Benz 540 K Cabriolet from 1937 (sold for € 2,255,000) caused a sensation at these sales.
For two wheels, we also keep hope that the Sunday Ride Classic can be held at the beginning of next May (weekend of May 21, 22 and 23, 2021). This is the history of motorcycle sport that can be found there since 2009 at Circuit Paul Ricard, in France. The 2020 edition had to be canceled due to the sanitary situation in Europe.
